Acton Fire Responds to Multiple Service Calls Within an Hour

ACTON — Chief Anita Arnum reports that the Acton Fire Department responded to three calls for service on Thursday, all within an hour.

On Thursday, April 9, at approximately 7:36 a.m., Acton Fire responded to Great Road for a two-car motor vehicle crash. There were no reported injuries.

At around 8:02 a.m. Acton Fire responded to 24 Meeting House Road for reports of a chimney fire. Upon arrival, crews observed heavy smoke from the chimney of the home and began an aggressive attack on the fire.

Due to the quick work of firefighters, the fire was contained to the chimney. There were no reported injuries. Mutual aid was provided by Concord Fire. Westford and Boxborough Fire provided station coverage.

Simultaneously at 8:25 a.m., Acton Fire was notified of multiple utility poles and trees down in the area of Central Street in West Acton.

Upon arrival, Acton Fire observed five utility poles and two trees down across the road. As a result, two transformers were leaking, and there were live wires exposed, resulting in multiple power outages in the area.

Acton Fire immediately notified Eversource, which is currently on scene. Central Street is closed with detours between Elm and Arlington streets. Acton Department of Public Works assisted with road closures. Acton Police is assisting with traffic. There were no reported injuries.

“I would like to thank our mutual aid partners and the work of our crews who worked diligently to manage three back-to-back calls within an hour,” said Chief Arnum. “These incidents highlight the various calls our department can respond to each day. I am proud of our crews for their diligence in assisting our community throughout the morning.”
