UPDATE: Charlton Fire Department Responds to Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash on Route 20

CHARLTON — The Charlton Fire Department responded Tuesday morning to a crash on Route 20 that left one individual dead and another seriously injured. 

On Tuesday, March 31, at approximately 7:45 a.m., the Charlton Fire Department was called to Route 20 near the Sturbridge town line for a report of a two-vehicle crash. 

Engine 1, Ambulance 1, Ambulance 2, Car 1 and Car 2 responded.

The driver of one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle was treated on scene for serious injuries by Charlton Fire Department Paramedics. 

Paramedics requested assistance from a LifeFlight helicopter, and transported the driver by ambulance to the State Police Barracks in Charlton, where the driver was transferred to LifeFlight. That driver was then flown to UMass Memorial Hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. 

The crash remains under investigation by State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, the Charlton Police Department, State Police Crime Scene Services, State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section (CARS), and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The Charlton Fire Department offers its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased individual. 

All further inquiries regarding the crash should be directed to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
