Taunton Fire Department Extinguishes Electrical Fire in Kitchen of Oak Street Home

TAUNTON — Fire Chief Steven P. Lavigne reports that the Taunton Fire Department extinguished an electrical fire in the kitchen of an Oak Street home on Monday morning.

Taunton fire crews were dispatched at 8:27 a.m. on Monday, March 30, for a fire reported at 33 Oak St.

Firefighters made entry and quickly extinguished the flames in the kitchen area.

Residents evacuated safely prior to the arrival of firefighters. No firefighters were injured during the incident.

The fire, which led to smoke and water damage, is being investigated by Taunton Fire Lt. Jason Hayes.

A preliminary investigation determined that the fire was electrical in nature. Electrical arcing — a dangerous discharge of electricity that jumps across a gap between two conductors — was discovered in the kitchen area by an appliance delivery man before the fire was reported.

Engines 1, 3, and 5, Ladder 2, and Car 2 responded to the scene. All crews cleared the scene by 9:41 a.m.
