IPSWICH — The Ipswich Public Health Department and Director of Public Health Colleen Fermon share that the Town will be hosting overdose rescue training for residents in partnership with the North Shore Health Project/ONESTOP Harm Reduction Services.
The training will take place on Wednesday, April 15 from 3-4 p.m. at Ipswich Town Hall, 25 Green St., Meeting Room C.
The training is free for all residents, but registration is required. Residents can register here. The link to register can also be found on the homepage of the Town of Ipswich website, ipswichma.gov.
The training will be hosted by the North Shore Health Project/ONESTOP Harm Reduction Services. During the training, participants will learn how to recognize when someone is having an overdose and learn response practices, such as using Narcan.
The Town of Ipswich has several Overdose Response cabinets accessible to residents. These cabinets contain necessary materials, including Narcan, for bystanders to use in the event of an overdose. Residents are encouraged to use these cabinets in the event of an emergency, but are also welcome to take items from the cabinets and keep them at home or in their car.
Overdose Response Cabinets can be found at the following locations:
- Inside Town Hall, 25 Green St., on each floor by the AED and first aid kits
- Ipswich Public Library, 25 North Main St., by the elevator on each floor
- Hall-Haskell House, 36 South Main St., by the restroom
- Central Street Fire Station, 55 Central St., outdoors on the Manning Street side of the building
- Linebrook Fire Station, 330 Linebrook Road
Individuals at risk of an opioid overdose and individuals who regularly interact with someone at risk of an opioid overdose should have Narcan on hand.
“This training is extremely valuable, and we encourage anyone to attend if they are able,” said Fermon. “Knowing how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose are extremely valuable skills that can be useful at any time.”
