EASTON — The Easton School Committee has unanimously chosen Assistant Superintendent Crissy Pruitt as Easton Public Schools’ next Superintendent.

Pruitt will take the top administrator’s post July 1, pending successful contract negotiations, following Superintendent Dr. Lisha Cabral’s retirement.

The incoming Superintendent said the promotion was “28 years in the making.”

“I’m not stepping into something new tonight,” Pruitt told the School Committee. “I’m stepping forward into work that I have been doing here in this District for nine years, work I care deeply about, work rooted in relationships and work grounded in systems that support students and educators every day.”

Pruitt has served as Assistant Superintendent since 2017.

“I know Easton,” said Pruitt. “I know the dedication of our educators. I know the potential of our students. I know the hopes our families carry for their children. I know our strengths and I also know where we are feeling strain. And that perspective matters.”

Pruitt pledged to lead “with presence, with clarity, with shared responsibility and with unwavering focus on students.”

“My leadership is anchored in one belief: instruction first, people always,” Pruitt told the School Committee. “Every decision about culture, communication, curriculum or budget must strengthen what happens in our classrooms. Easton deserves steady leadership. Leadership that protects what is strong. Leadership that improves what must evolve. Leadership that communicates clearly and acts decisively. And leadership that uses equity not as a slogan, but as a lens. That is how I will lead Easton forward.”

Superintendent Dr. Cabral followed a similar trajectory as her predecessor. She served the Easton Public Schools for 13 years — four as Assistant Superintendent and nine as Superintendent.

“At a time when education in Massachusetts and across the nation faces many challenges, this appointment brings a sense of stability, possibility, and forward momentum,” said Superintendent Cabral. “Crissy’s deep knowledge of our district and her enthusiasm for our collective work position Easton Public Schools well for the inspiring opportunities ahead. Her leadership, paired with the dedication of the incredible staff in Easton, should give the community great confidence in the future of the district.”

Assistant Superintendent Pruitt delivered a presentation at the Feb. 26 School Committee meeting, and the Committee immediately followed with a unanimous vote to promote her to the District’s top leadership position.

“I’ve never had any question about her instructional leadership, because I’ve seen what she has done with professional development, with the curriculum … and her presentations to the School Committee over the years about all the work the Curriculum Committee has done,” Easton School Committee Chair Jacqueline Weisman said following Pruitt’s presentation. “I was really interested to hear how she would focus on equity, inclusion and diversity. I was interested in hearing how she would address some of the trust issues that are going on in the district, in the town — how she would address staff burnout. And how she would address the challenges our students are facing besides their regular classroom challenges.”

Following the meeting, Chair Weisman released the following statement on behalf of the Easton School Committee: “The School Committee congratulates Mrs. Pruitt on her well-deserved new role and thanks her for the passion, care, and professionalism she brings to our school each day. Our district is fortunate to have her leadership, and we look forward to our continued work together.”

Pruitt earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Child in Society from the Boston College Lynch School of Education and Human Development and her Master of Education, Moderate Special Needs in 1998. She’s currently pursuing her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership at her alma mater, with an expected completion date in May.

“I am truly honored and incredibly excited to serve as the next Superintendent of Easton Public Schools,” Pruitt said after the School Committee meeting. “This community is extraordinary. Our students, educators and families inspire me every single day. I am so grateful for the opportunity to continue this work together as we build on our strong foundation, champion every learner, and ensure each student feels known, supported, and empowered to thrive. The best is ahead of us, and I can’t wait to get started.”
