SWANSEA — The Town of Swansea has been awarded $1,092,000 in federal funding for the Route 6 Corridor Sewer Collection Project.
The funding was included in the Fiscal Year 2026 Community Project Funding requests secured for Massachusetts’ 4th Congressional District in the federal appropriations package signed into law last week.
The project will construct a sewer collection system along the Route 6 corridor from Somerset to Route 118 and up to Wood Street. The full project is expected to cost approximately $21 million and is intended to support long-term commercial growth, housing development and environmental improvements.
The Town of Swansea views this system as the first in a multi-phase project that will ultimately extend to abutting neighborhoods along the corridor.
“This funding is another important step forward for Swansea as we continue working to build the infrastructure needed to support responsible growth,” said Town Administrator Mallory Aronstein. “A sewer system along Route 6 will help create new opportunities for economic development and strengthen the town’s long-term financial outlook. We’re grateful for the partnership at the federal level that is helping move this priority project ahead.”
U.S. Rep. Jake Auchincloss advocated for the funding as part of the congressional appropriations process.
“Route 6 sewer collection will improve water quality and unlock commercial development for Swansea,” Rep. Auchincloss said. “I am working closely with local officials on this project and will continue to support their infrastructure strategy.”
