WEST NEWBURY — The West Newbury Police and Fire Departments responded Sunday morning to a serious two-vehicle crash on Main Street.

On Sunday, Feb. 8, at approximately 11:15 a.m., the Police and Fire Departments were called to the intersection of Main Street (Route 113) and Crane Neck Road for a report of a crash.

First responders arrived to find a two-vehicle crash, with the driver of a pickup truck trapped inside his vehicle. West Newbury firefighters, with support from Groveland and Merrimac firefighters, used extrication tools to free the driver, a 70-year-old man.

That man was taken by Cataldo Atlantic Ambulance to Pentucket Regional Middle High School, where a medical helicopter was waiting to transport to the man to a Boston-area hospital with injuries that appeared to be serious. The other driver did not report injuries.

Main Street remains closed on Sunday afternoon to facilitate an ongoing investigation that is being conducted by West Newbury Police with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.

Merrimac and Groveland Police and the West Newbury Highway Department provided assistance at the scene.
