Attleboro Fire Department Working at Major Water Main Break

ATTLEBORO — Fire Chief Chief Scott T. Lachance, on behalf of Mayor Cathleen DeSimone and working alongside the Attleboro Water Department, reports that the City of Attleboro has suffered a serious water main break, and officials are actively working to determine the extent of damage and make repairs.

Attleboro Police have CLOSED South Main Street (Rt. 152) in both directions at this time, and any motorists who absolutely must be on the road Monday evening will be detoured between Thurber Avenue and Locust Street. The roadway is also closed to emergency vehicles until the structural integrity of the roadway can be confirmed. This may result in delays in response times to other emergencies in the city.

Crews are assessing damage to a water main near the intersection of Henshaw Avenue and South Main Street.

Due to frigid temperatures and severe weather conditions, the City is advising that emergency crews will likely be on scene for several hours. Chief Lachance is urgently warning all residents to avoid the area due to extreme danger of icing. South Main Street

Residents should expect low or zero water pressure and discolored water. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
