MATTAPOISETT — Old Rochester Regional School District leaders are proving that even school administrators can have a little fun, especially when a snow day and a New England Patriots Super Bowl appearance are both on the line.
To announce a snow day, closing down school buildings on Monday, Jan. 26, the District shared a 1-minute, 32-second AI-assisted parody video inspired by Billy Joel’s “Piano Man,” reimagined to celebrate both a winter snow day and a New England Patriots’ victory over the Denver Broncos in the 2025 AFC Championship Game.

The social media video stars Old Rochester Regional School District and MA Superintendency Union #55 Superintendent Michael S. Nelson and Old Colony Regional Vocational-Technical High School District Superintendent-Director Aaron Polansky. As the New England region looked forward to a monster snowstorm, the video playfully depicts district leaders deliberating on whether to call a snow day, and when exactly. Superintendent Nelson and Superintendent-Director Polansky debate whether the snow day announcement should come before or after the Patriots’ championship win.
Their discussion leads them to reach out to someone for advice: The Chief. The school district leaders eventually get through to the real Chief, Rochester Police Chief Michael Assad Jr., but not before mistakenly calling Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who is unavailable this playoff season.
Eventually, they reach the right person, Chief Assad.
“Superintendent, good to have you on the phone,” Chief Assad says in the video. “The New England Patriots are going to the Super Bowl. No school tomorrow. Stay home, kids. Let’s go!”
The parody features Superintendent-Director Polansky singing rewritten lyrics to “Piano Man,” including the line, “So turn up your heat, and put up your feet, on Monday Old Colony’s closed.”
The video concludes with Polansky relaxing in a hammock, roasting marshmallows over a campfire, surrounded by snow, fully embracing his winter day off.
The Old Rochester Regional School District shared the video on Facebook, giving students and staff some laughs before the big game, while also showing that sometimes a snow day announcement can be just as memorable as the day off itself.
“We were glad to have a little fun putting together this announcement. We just want everyone to enjoy the snow day safely and to look out for one another as we get through the aftermath of this storm,” said Superintendent Nelson. “And of course, let’s all keep rooting for our home team. Let’s go Patriots!”
