The Ipswich Public Health Department has partnered with the Rockport and Gloucester Health Departments to form an Opioid Abatement Collaborative to address the opioid crisis by investing $300,000 through expanded treatment access and recovery support.
The Collaborative applied for and received a $150,000 grant from the Mosaic Municipal Matching Grant through the RIZE Massachusetts Foundation.
As part of the grant funding, Mosaic Opioid Recovery Partnership, which is funded by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, matched contributions from each municipality’s Opioid Settlement Funds.
Ipswich contributed $20,000, Gloucester contributed $100,000 and Rockport contributed $30,000, forming a total of $300,000 to invest in funding treatments and services to those affected by opioid use.
The collaborative will initially fund three key services:
- Post-treatment recovery housing.
- Substance-free recovery programming.
- Transportation to and from treatment and recovery appointments.
These strategies were shaped by community needs assessments and surveys, with input gathered from those who have experience with opioid use.
