GEORGETOWN – The Town of Georgetown has been selected for a state grant that will support upgrades on Route 133.
Georgetown was one of 34 communities sharing in $50 million of funding from the Department of Transportation (MassDOT) Highway Division’s Municipal Pavement Program, in the latest round of grants by the Healey-Driscoll Administration.
The Municipal Pavement Program selects specific municipalities cited for road improvement needs based on pavement condition data, geographic equity, and the proportion of state routes within a municipality that are in a poor condition that could be hazardous to drivers and pedestrians.
Grant funding will be used to improve about 1.5 miles from Interstate 95 to the town center.
Georgetown aggressively seeks out state grant funding to improve quality-of-life issues without burdening taxpayers.
“We’re grateful to the Healey-Driscoll Administration for this funding,” Town Administrator Orlando Pacheco said. “This round of funding from the Municipal Pavement Program largely supports small communities such as Georgetown who may not have the means to take on large, important projects.”
Exact project limits, including specific mile marker points of construction, will be discussed during a field visit at a future date.
