CANTON — Interim Police Chief Joseph Perkins and Fire Chief Wendell Robery report that the Canton Police Fire Departments responded after a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle on Wednesday evening.
Canton Police and Fire responded to a 911 call at 6:55 p.m. reporting that a pedestrian was struck by a sedan at the intersection of Randolph Street and Wentworth Road. Upon arrival minutes later, rescuers located an adult male in the roadway suffering from serious traumatic injuries.
The victim was transported by Canton Fire ambulance to a Boston hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the sedan remained at the scene and was cooperating with police.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Canton Police Department. Randolph Street does have crosswalks in the vicinity, but it is unclear at this time if the victim was walking in a crosswalk when he was struck.
Randolph Street is closed in the area, and motorists are being detoured at Wentworth Road. Drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible as investigators work at the scene.
