SPRINGFIELD — A century ago, the Pulitzer Trophy was the crown jewel of American air racing, pushing pilots and aircraft to new limits in front of cheering crowds. This fall, the Pulitzer Trophy will return to the skies — fittingly in Ohio, the birthplace of aviation — once again pushing the bounds of innovation with the world’s first all-electric airplane race.

Pulitzer Trophy 2025 will revive a century of American aviation heritage and celebrate the dawn of electric aviation, from Oct. 10 to 15, hosted at Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport by the National Advanced Air Mobility Center of Excellence (NAAMCE) and the Advanced Air Mobility Institute.

The six-day program will include:

  • STEM Education Day on Friday, Oct. 10
  • World Aviation Record Attempts on Saturday, Oct. 11
  • Pulitzer Centennial Race on Sunday, Oct. 12
  • Community Town Hall on Monday, Oct. 13
  • National AAM Industry Forum on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 14-15

The kickoff on Oct. 10 will include a welcome reception, career panel, live drone demonstration, and hands-on STEM activities.

Saturday will feature air race team practice flights, 1920s experience flights, world record attempts, a race press conference, 2020s electric demo flights, and a reception for pilots and VIPs in the evening.

Sunday marks 100 years — to the exact date — since the Pulitzer Trophy was last awarded in 1925. The Pulitzer Electric Aircraft Race will include two semifinal heats and the trophy race final heat.

Monday will feature an Advanced Air Mobility Town Hall, where the community can learn about electric mobility and the local community in an interactive format. The day will focus on education, including presentations about Ohio aviation history and the 1925 Pulitzer Race.

The final two days — Tuesday and Wednesday — will feature the 2025 National Advanced Air Mobility Industry Forum. For more information, and to register for the Industry Forum, visit the Dayton Development Center website.

The Pulitzer Trophy’s revival a century later honors America’s aviation heritage while advancing the next era of air mobility through zero-emission, all-electric aircraft.

The full slate of events is open to the public. The events on Oct. 10, 11, and 13 are free, while registration and a fee are required for the Oct. 12 race and the Oct. 14-15 Industry Forum.
