NAHANT — Chief Timothy Furlong is excited to announce that the Nahant Police Department has received its very first K-9 in department history.
K-9 Solo, a 10-month-old Belgian Malinois, was officially appointed to the department on Wednesday, Aug. 20. Solo will be partnered with handler Officer Conner Robertson and will be working as a tracking dog during search and rescue and narcotics operations.
Officer Robertson is a U.S. Air Force Veteran and has a master’s degree in criminology and criminal justice. His commitment to growth is unwavering as he steps into this next role as a K-9 handler.
K-9 Solo comes from Runchkin Hill Training and Breeding Facility, located in West Newbury. Nahant Police worked closely with staff and owner Robin Desmond during the process of adopting Solo.
This is the first time the department has had a K-9 Unit and hopes to expand in the future.
“I am thrilled we are able to bring a K-9 Unit to Nahant Police,” said Chief Furlong. “We hope that by starting this program, we are able to expand and bring more candidates to the department. K-9s serve an important role in policing, and we are excited to be able to assist our community at the highest level.”
K-9 Solo and Officer Robertson will complete a variety of training over the coming weeks. Once training is complete, Solo will officially be sworn in to the department later this fall.
