SOUTHBOROUGH — The Southborough Police Department arrested five people for operating under the influence (OUI) this past weekend as part of the department’s ongoing commitment to keeping local roads safe.
“These arrests are a reminder that impaired driving puts everyone at risk,” said Chief Ryan Newell. “Our officers will continue to take a zero-tolerance approach to OUI in order to protect the public.”
Two of the arrests occurred on Saturday, two on Sunday, and one early Monday.
Each person was charged with Operating Under the Influence of Liquor. Additional charges between the individuals ranged from Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle to Failure to Stop for Police, Speeding, Marked Lanes Violation, and Failure to Notify the Registry of Motor Vehicles of a Name/Address Change.
The Southborough Police Department urges drivers to plan ahead by designating a sober driver, making other arrangements to avoid driving while impaired, or using ride-share or taxi services.
Residents are reminded that impaired driving — whether due to alcohol, drugs or a combination — is illegal and extremely dangerous. Anyone who suspects an impaired driver is encouraged to call 911 immediately.
