Southborough Police Arrest Driver for OUI After Crash

SOUTHBOROUGH — Chief Ryan Newell reports that the Southborough Police Department arrested and charged a Marlborough man for Operating Under the Influence and drug possession after a crash on Tuesday night.

MARVETTE JOYNER, age 37, of MARLBOROUGH, was arrested and charged with:

  • Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Operating Under the Influence of Liquor
  • Possession of Class B, Subsequent Offense

On Tuesday, Aug. 5, at 9:30 p.m., Patrolman Christopher Byrne, Officer Jillisa Smith, and Sgt. Stephen Neivert responded to the area of Turnpike Road and Woodland Road for a report of a two-car motor vehicle crash with air bag deployment.

Upon arrival, responding officers found a Chevrolet Impala and a Honda Pilot heavily damaged in the roadway and partially on the sidewalk.

The driver of the Impala, later determined to be JOYNER, displayed signs of intoxication and had difficulty complying with the officers’ orders.

After a brief investigation into JOYNER’s behavior and the circumstances of the crash, officers determined that they had probable cause to place Joyner under arrest for Operating Under the Influence.

During an inventory search of the vehicle, Southborough Police located a $5 bill with a white, powdery substance inside that appeared to be cocaine (a Class B controlled substance) on the front passenger seat of the vehicle. Officers also observed several empty bottles of liquor nips and a baggie containing approximately 12 grams of the same white powdery substance in the center console. Additionally, a bag of marijuana, a scale, and more opened and unopened nip bottles were also located inside the vehicle.

JOYNER will appear in Westborough District Court for arraignment at a future date.

Occupants of the Pilot were not injured.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
