RYE — The Town of Rye and Rye Police Department recently held a swearing-in ceremony to celebrate and officiate Deputy Chief Scott Blaisdell’s promotion to Rye Chief of Police.
The ceremony took place on Monday, July 28, at Rye Public Library, with members of the Select Board, Rye Police and Fire Departments, and members of the public present.
Chief Blaisdell has worked with Rye Police for 26 years and has served as the Interim Chief since January. He also heads the Seacoast Emergency Response Team’s Crisis Negotiation Team as Executive Officer.
Chief Blaisdell, a Rye native, has exhibited strong leadership skills and an unwavering dedication to his community. Both the Town of Rye and the Rye Police Department are confident that Chief Blaisdell’s experience and ties to the community will aid in a seamless transition.
Former Rye Police Chief Kevin Walsh was also in attendance at the ceremony. Chief Walsh served as the interim chief of the North Hampton Police Department beginning in January and was recently officially appointed as Chief.
The ceremony honored Chief Walsh’s time and achievements with Rye Police by presenting him with an honorary street sign, Chief Walsh’s Way, that will be placed in front of Rye Junior High School.
This is a symbolic gesture to recognize Chief Walsh’s longstanding service to the school community.
For several years, Chief Walsh directed traffic outside of the Junior High, serving as a consistent, positive presence for staff, students, and families. In addition, Chief Walsh generously gave his time to support the school in many other ways. The Select Board and School Board acknowledge his dedication with this lasting tribute.
Chief Walsh was also presented with a chair bearing the town’s logo, his name, and an expression of gratitude engraved on the back. He also received an album full of memories, mementos and heartfelt notes capturing the people, moments, and milestones that shaped his remarkable career.
The Town of Rye would like to once again thank Chief Walsh for his service and welcome Chief Blaisdell to his new position.
