Woburn Public Schools to Discuss the Future of Aging School Buildings at Forum on July 30

WOBURN — Woburn Public Schools will hold a building meeting next week to discuss the future of Woburn’s four oldest schools and is inviting the community to attend.

The forum will be held at Woburn Memorial High School beginning at 6 p.m. to review the needs of the aging Linscott-Rumford and Alavesta Elementary Schools and the Kennedy and Joyce Middle Schools.

Donna DiNisco of DiNisco Design will be the featured speaker. DiNisco Design recently conducted a feasibility study for the District, which DiNisco will discuss during the forum.

As a result of the study, the District is now in conversations to submit a statement of intent to the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA). Statements of intent are the initial step in the MSBA’s program and allow districts to inform the MSBA about deficiencies in existing buildings and how they restrict educational programs.

“I hope that the School Building Forum inspires the entire community to join in with the School Committee’s vision to create the best possible educational environment for our learners,” said Ellen Crowley, School Committee Chair.

“Our four aging buildings have served so many children and have become a part of our history and our identity as a city. However, these buildings are old and have become an educational challenge that the entire community can address together.

“The School Committee urges residents, families, educators, and city leaders to join us in advocating for new, modern school buildings that reflect the high standards our students deserve. Your voices and support are essential as we work together toward a shared goal: safe, accessible, and future-ready schools for every Woburn student. We believe that transparency and community engagement are essential as we begin a critical conversation about the future of our school infrastructure.”
