EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Michael Jenkins is pleased to announce that the East Bridgewater Police Department has promoted Officer Matthew Monteiro to the rank of Detective.
Detective Monteiro will be assigned to the Investigative Division effective September 2025, following the graduation of the current class of East Bridgewater Police recruits from the Municipal Police Training Committee’s (MPTC) 78th Recruit Officer Course (ROC) at the Plymouth Police Academy.
Monteiro was hired as a full-time East Bridgewater Police Officer on Sept. 19, 2022. He previously attended and graduated from the Plymouth Police Academy for Reserve Officers in 2007.
Following graduation, Monteiro was hired by the Abington Police Department, where he served as a Special Police Officer from 2007-2011. In 2011, he was appointed a Reserve Police Officer by the East Bridgewater Police Department, serving until 2013.
In 2013, he attended and graduated from the MPTC’s 57th ROC Plymouth Police Academy and was hired as a full-time Police Officer by the West Bridgewater Police Department. Then, in 2022, he returned to his hometown and rejoined the East Bridgewater Police Department.
Monteiro graduated from East Bridgewater Jr./Sr. High School in 2000 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University in 2005. He later earned a master’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
Monteiro is a certified Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), Motorcycle Officer, Field Training Officer (FTO) and a Plymouth County Outreach (PCO) Officer. He also recently obtained his Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) private pilot’s license as well as his FAA Drone Operator certificate and is now one of the East Bridgewater Police Department’s certified drone operators.
He is also very involved in the community and currently coaches cheerleading and baseball at the East Bridgewater Jr./Sr. High School.
“Since he took the oath and became a member of the East Bridgewater Police Department, Matthew Monteiro has served this community with honor and distinction,” said Chief Jenkins. “In his new investigatory role, Detective Monteiro will continue to exemplify the character and principles of this department.
