Rowley Water Department Issues Non-Essential Outdoor Water Ban for Week of July 7

ROWLEY – The Rowley Water Department is issuing a ban on all non-essential outdoor water use during the week of July 7.

Previously, the Department had notified residents of limited restrictions during the week, which banned non-essential water use between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, in preparation for the summer, the Department will be redeveloping a well, which is expected to create lower well flows.

The maintenance of this well, combined with the shutdown of well #2, has created a need to implement a complete ban on non-essential outdoor water use during the week of July 7. From July 7-14, no non-essential water usage will be permitted during any part of the day.

No major shortage of water is expected during this time. The ban is being implemented as a precaution to help mitigate total water demand and conserve water.

Examples of non-essential outdoor water use include:

  • Washing buildings, driveways, or sidewalks (unless necessary for safety or maintenance).
  • Lawn irrigation by sprinklers or automatic systems.
  • Washing cars (except at commercial car washes).

The ban will be removed once maintenance is completed, at which point restrictions between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. will be reinstated.

“We appreciate the patience and cooperation of our residents in conserving their water use. With your help in conserving water, the maintenance should not lead to any major water shortages ,” said Superintendent Robert Swiniarski.
