WOBURN — Principal Ken Kessaris is pleased to report that Linscott-Rumford Elementary School students recently participated in the “Fall into Reading” challenge.

For four weeks, students were challenged to read at home to rack up minutes for their grade level. Students submitted a leaf for every 20 minutes of reading they completed. Leaves were posted on bulletin boards and hallways at the school.

The student body read a total of 36,960 minutes — or 616 hours — by the end of the challenge. Grade 3 won the competition with 11,160 minutes.

The final results for reading minutes for each grade level were:

  • Kindergarten — 3,500 minutes
  • Grade 1 — 2,520 minutes
  • Grade 2 — 7,980 minutes
  • Grade 3 — 11,160 minutes
  • Grade 4 — 8,220 minutes
  • Grade 5 — 3,580 minutes

Content Specialist Sarah Maggio and Reading Specialist Susan Plamondon helped coordinate the program.

“We are so proud of everyone who participated! Thank you to our classroom teachers and our families for your support at home as we work together to create lifelong readers,” said Principal Kessaris. “Special thanks to Mrs. Maggio and Mrs. Plamondon for tracking the leaves on the bulletin boards and down the hallways. We’re excited for future reading challenges to come!”
