DUNSTABLE — Chief William Farrell reports that the Dunstable Fire Department responded to and extinguished a brush fire early this morning.
On Friday, Nov. 15, at approximately 5:06 a.m., Dunstable Fire responded to the area of Hollis Street for reports of a brush fire that was rapidly spreading.
Upon arrival, crews observed heavy smoke and flames coming from the wooded area near an encampment and immediately began an aggressive attack to stop the spread of the flames.
Crews extinguished the fire around 11:30 a.m. and will remain on scene throughout the day to check for hot spots.
There were no reported injuries. A total of two acres of woods burned as a result.
Mutual aid was provided by the Tyngsborough, Pepperell, and Groton Fire Departments, Nashua NH Fire Department, and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.
Dunstable Fire reminds residents that the Town of Dunstable prohibits all outdoor burning due to the extremely elevated wildfire risk.
Residents and community members are also reminded that open burning is prohibited this time of year. Open burning season is from Jan. 15 through May 1. It is illegal to conduct open burning in Massachusetts outside of the designated open burning schedule.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Dunstable Fire.
