AVON — Chief David Charest reports that the Avon Fire Department extinguished a commercial building fire on Ledin Drive Wednesday evening.
On Wednesday, Sept. 11, at approximately 5:20 p.m., the Avon Fire Department responded to a report of a commercial building fire at Cuming Microwave Corporation, at 1 Ledin Drive.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from a commercial furnace oven. Crews determined the fire was contained in the oven. Firefighters had to allow the furnace to cool down before they could completely extinguish the fire, which took a lengthy period of time.
Firefighters spent hours ventilating the building to mitigate the large amount of smoke and raised levels of carbon monoxide. Crews worked at the scene for three hours in total.
No one was injured as a result of the fire.
The building’s industrial operation has been temporarily shut down but is projected to be in operation again within a few days.
Mutual aid was provided at the scene by the Stoughton, Brockton, Randolph and Middleborough Fire Departments. Holbrook Fire provided station coverage during the incident. Boston Sparks also assisted with rehab at the scene.
“Members of the Avon Fire Department quickly responded to the fire and did a great job of getting it under control and taking the time to completely ventilate the building,” said Chief Charest. “We want to thank our mutual aid partners for their assistance.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Avon Fire Department.
