TAUNTON — Chief Steven Lavigne reports that the Taunton Fire Department responded Friday to a fire in an abandoned building.
On Friday, Sept. 6, at approximately 12:30 p.m., the Taunton Fire Department received a 911 call for a report of a structure fire at 106 Oak St. The building is known to be frequented by the homeless population.
Upon arrival, Engines 1, 3, 4, 5 and 9 and a ladder truck found fire coming from an abandoned three-story mill building.
The fire is under control at this time, but crews will remain on scene extinguishing hot spots.
No firefighters were injured battling the fire.
Mutual aid crews provided station coverage during the incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Taunton Fire Department and Taunton Police Department.
