BRIDGEWATER — Chief John Schlatz reports that the Bridgewater Fire Department responded to a technical rescue incident this morning.

On Tuesday, Sept. 3, at approximately 9:05 a.m., Bridgewater Fire received a call for a report of an employee of Stiles & Hart Brick Co., located at 127 Cook St., that was stuck in a coal-filled train car.

Upon arrival, firefighters located a 26-year-old Brockton man who was trapped waist-deep in a coal rail car. The man needed immediate medical assistance.

The Plymouth County Technical Rescue Team was notified and responded to the scene. Keolis Commuter Services shut down the track operation to allow first responders to extricate the man.

Members of the Bridgewater Fire Department, the Plymouth County Tech Rescue Team and Mike Flaherty of APC Corporation assisted in extricating the man with industrial vacuum equipment.

Once extricated, the man was transported by ambulance to a landing zone, where he was then flown via medical helicopter to a Boston hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The Department of Fire Services Special Operations Rehab Unit provided mutual aid.

The scene cleared around 2:30 p.m. The man’s current condition is unknown.
