MAYNARD — Chief Angela Lawless reports that the Maynard Fire Department, with the assistance of its mutual aid partners, responded to and extinguished a house fire early this morning.
On Tuesday, June 4, at approximately 12:25 a.m. Maynard Fire was dispatched to a one-story home at 1 Little Road for reports of a fire.
Upon arrival crews observed heavy smoke coming out a side window. The residents and one dog had evacuated before crews arrived. Another dog remained inside.
A Maynard Police Officer went into the home but was unable to find the dog due to the smoke. A short time later Acton Fire crews located the puppy, who was not hurt. The puppy was given water and oxygen by first responders.
Crews were able to contain the fire to the room of origin, and the fire was knocked down less than an hour after arrival.
One resident and one Maynard officer were transported to an area hospital as a precaution. They have since been released. No other injuries were reported.
Mutual aid was provided by the Stow, Acton, Concord, Sudbury, Hudson, Boxborough, Carlise, Wayland Fire Departments, and PRO ALS. Maynard Police also provided on-scene assistance.
At least three people are displaced. Both dogs are currently in the care of Maynard Animal Control and are believed to be doing well.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the District 14 Fire Investigation Team and the State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office.
