PLYMOUTH — Chief Neil Foley reports that the Plymouth Fire Department responded to a single-vehicle crash Friday afternoon off Route 3 and extricated an adult male from a vehicle that came to rest in the Eel River.
On Friday, May 31, at approximately 4:57 p.m., the Plymouth Fire Department was called to Route 3 at the Eel River for a report of a crash.
Companies arrived to find a single vehicle that went off the southbound lanes of the road, over a guardrail, and into the Eel River.
Firefighters had to enter the river and use hydraulic tools to free the driver, a 50-year-old male. The effort took about 20 minutes.
Two juveniles, a 9-year-old male and a 13-year-old female, were also in the vehicle and injured. The juveniles were transported to local hospitals by ambulance. The driver was taken to a Boston trauma center by medical helicopter.
Brewster Ambulance, Plymouth Police and Massachusetts State Police also responded to the scene to assist. The crash is under investigation by Massachusetts State Police.
“I think the efforts of Plymouth Fire personnel, Brewster Ambulance, and Plymouth Police was a true team effort to provide the care that all the patients needed, and that made a difference,” Chief Foley said.
