AVON — Fire Chief David Charest is pleased to report that the Avon Fire Department participated in Vehicle Extrication Training at the Avon Fire Department on Monday, May 15 and Tuesday, May 16.

All members of the Avon Fire Department practiced using hydraulic extrication tools, such as the Jaws of Life, to rescue victims trapped in motor vehicle wreckage. The training covers the use of hydraulic tools and cribbing, giving firefighters a chance to practice their skills.

The extrication was led by Chief Charest and firefighters simulated rescues using salvaged scrap vehicles, which were generously provided by C & L Towing of Randolph. The Avon Fire Department plans to conduct this essential training annually moving forward.

“It’s crucial that our department continues to remain ready to effectively respond to a variety of emergencies,” Chief Charest said. “I was pleased by the hard work of our skilled team. This training will continue to provide a vital opportunity for our firefighters to be prepared in critical situations.”
