WHITMAN — Chief Timothy Clancy reports that the Whitman Fire Department extinguished a house fire on Hogg Memorial Drive last night.
On Monday, May 13, at 5:24 p.m., Whitman Fire received a 911 call for a report of smoke coming from the roof at a one-story home, located at 573 Hogg Memorial Drive.
Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from the attic of the home and began conducting an exterior attack.
Firefighters knocked down the fire and conducted an extensive overhaul operation, checking for hotspots.
No injuries were reported. The sole occupant of the house was able to evacuate prior to firefighters’ arrival. The resident has been displaced and is being assisted by family. A cat was also brought to safety by firefighters.
The home has been deemed uninhabitable at this time.
Mutual aid was provided by the East Bridgewater and Hanson Fire Departments. Halifax Fire also responded with an ambulance. Abington Fire provided station coverage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Whitman Fire Department but is believed to be accidental.
