ACTON — Fire Chief Anita Arnum reports that the Acton Fire Department extinguished a garage fire that extended to a house on Main Street this evening.
On Sunday, March 31 at 6:26 p.m., Acton Fire responded to multiple reports of a house fire at 923 Main St.
A passer-by noticed flames coming from the detached garage and alerted the two residents, as they were initially unaware of the fire. The two residents were able to safely evacuate the house with their two pet cats before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.
Upon arrival, first responders found flames coming from a detached garage, extending to a work van parked in the driveway and to the side of the residence.
Firefighters worked to extinguish the flames and the fire was deemed under control within minutes.
Damage was contained to the garage and the work van, which were both declared a total loss. The side exterior of the home sustained extensive radiant heat damage but was otherwise deemed habitable.
Members of the Westford Fire Department, Maynard Fire Department and Littleton Fire Department responded to the scene to assist. Station coverage was provided by the Concord Fire Department and the Boxborough Fire Department.
The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation by the Acton Fire Department and District 14 Fire Investigation Team.
