RANDOLPH — Chief Ronald Cassford reports that the Randolph Fire Department extinguished a fire at a home on South Main Street Wednesday.
At approximately 11:30 a.m., Randolph Fire was dispatched to a 2.5-story home at 440 S. Main St. for a report of a lawn mower fire that was beginning to spread to the deck and home. One of two residents who were home at the time noticed the fire and attempted to extinguish it, but was unsuccessful. Both residents safely exited the home prior to firefighters’ arrival.
Firefighters arrived to find that the fire had extended to the deck and rear of the home. A working fire response was requested, which brought mutual aid to the scene and for station coverage.
The fire was declared under control at 1:05 p.m. and the scene was cleared by 1:30 p.m. No injuries were reported.
The lawn mower was destroyed and the deck and rear of the home sustained damage. The home’s utilities were also turned off. The home is uninhabitable at this time and the two residents are in contact with friends and family. The Red Cross has also been contacted.
The Holbrook Fire Department provided mutual aid on scene. The Braintree, Milton and Stoughton Fire Departments provided station coverage.
A preliminary investigation by Randolph Fire investigators determined that the cause of the fire was accidental.
