Wakefield Fire Department Extinguishes Two-Alarm Fire

WAKEFIELD – Chief Michael Sullivan reports that the Wakefield Fire Department, with assistance from mutual aid partners, extinguished a two-alarm fire in a home on Forest Street on Friday morning.

WAKEFIELD – Chief Michael Sullivan reports that the Wakefield Fire Department, with assistance from mutual aid partners, extinguished a two-alarm fire in a home on Forest Street on Friday morning.

On Friday, Feb. 9, at approximately 10:45 a.m., the Wakefield Fire Department received multiple 911 calls reporting a fire at 21 Forest St.

The first arriving companies found heavy smoke showing from the home and fire in a second-floor hallway. Crews struck a second alarm and quickly stretched several hose lines into the rear of the home and knocked down the fire. Firefighters then opened walls to attack a fire extension.

Firefighters searched the home and found no one inside. The home’s lone resident returned later. The resident will be staying with family because the home is not habitable.

A firefighter suffered from heat exhaustion at the scene, and was taken to MelroseWakefield Hospital as a precaution.

Firefighters from Stoneham, Reading, Melrose, and North Reading provided mutual aid at the scene. Firefighters from Saugus, Woburn, and Lynnfield covered Wakefield stations.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Wakefield Fire and Police, with assistance from the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

“I am grateful that no one was seriously hurt in this fire,” said Chief Sullivan. “Our mutual aid companies all worked very well together, and we appreciate their support and professionalism.”
