Visiting hours

WHERE:

Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton

WHEN:

Thursday, Dec. 21, 2-6 p.m.

Fire service and other public safety personnel will participate in a walk-through from 2-3 p.m. The public is welcome to attend from 3-6 p.m.

PARKING:

Media members attending are asked to park in the left rear lot at Best Western Plus The Inn At Hampton, 815 Lafayette Road.

MEDIA LOGISTICS:

Media are asked to stage across the street from the funeral home.

Funeral Services

WHERE:

Bethany Church, 500 Breakfast Hill Road, Greenland

WHEN: 

Friday, Dec. 22, 11 a.m. No public burial service is planned.

PARKING:

Attending media members are asked to park in the upper church lot.

LIVESTREAM:

Bethany Church will be streaming the funeral service at https://live.bethanychurch.com/, beginning at 11 a.m.

Pool Arrangements

WMUR will be the pool video camera inside the church during the funeral service.

Outlets wishing to provide pool still camera coverage during the service are asked to contact Tom Zuppa at tom@jgpr.net. Other media outlets are asked to stage across the street from the church.

MEDIA LOGISTICS:

The procession is expected to arrive at the church at about 10 a.m. Lt. Gallant will be transported from the funeral home to the church on a 1931 Model A Rye Fire Department pumper, which he meticulously restored.

Ongoing Vigil

Members of the International Association of Fire Fighters representing numerous departments in the Seacoast Region are maintaining a 24-hour vigil over the body of Lt. Gallant through visiting hours. Union members, and members of Rye Fire Rescue, will continue the vigil through the funeral service.

Mutual Aid

Members of numerous departments in the Seacoast Region are providing station coverage for Rye Fire Rescue through Saturday, Dec. 23 at 8 a.m.

Donations

In lieu of flowers, the Gallant family asks that memorial donations be made to a charity near and dear to Chuck’s heart, the Rye Toy Bank, P.O. Box 704, Rye, NH 03870.

Lt. Charles “Chuck” Gallant, 56, died at his home on Dec. 14, 2023 after working an overtime shift. Chuck dedicated his career to helping others throughout the New Hampshire Seacoast, both by responding to emergencies in Rye and by volunteering countless hours with the Rye Toy Bank, and Muscular Dystrophy Association, and so much more.

In 2014 Lt. Gallant was awarded the Paul W. Sypek Medal of Valor for assisting in the rescue of a brother firefighter at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. The medal is given to a first responder for conspicuous bravery at extreme risk of life.

Lt. Gallant served as President of IAFF Local 4411 for 15 years. He also was active in the Professional Fire Fighters of New Hampshire, and served as a trustee.
