TEWKSBURY – Police Chief Ryan Columbus reports that the Tewksbury Police Department has arrested and charged a man with armed robbery, in connection to an incident that occurred on Nov. 19 at Andy’s Convenience.

DOMENIC MYERS YANCY, AGE 20, of LOWELL, was arrested and charged with:

  • Armed Robbery while Masked
  • Assault with a Dangerous Weapon

On Sunday, Nov. 19, at approximately 8:37 p.m., Tewksbury Police were called to Andy’s Convenience, 420 Woburn St., for a report of an armed robbery.

Officers arrived to learn that a man had brandished what appeared to be a firearm as he demanded cash and other items from a clerk. The suspect then ran across Woburn Street and into a wooded area.

The suspect was described as a male in his mid-20s, wearing a black sweatshirt with white strings, black pants, a navy blue backpack and white and black Nike sneakers with an orange or red swoosh. The suspect brandished what appeared to be a Tec9-style firearm with an extended magazine.

Tewksbury Detectives began an aggressive criminal investigation and ultimately applied for and obtained a search warrant for a residence at 12 Commonwealth Ave., in Lowell. Due to the presence of a firearm during the robbery, Chief Columbus requested the help of the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC) Swat Team, which draws highly trained officers from across Essex and Middlesex Counties under the command of Tewksbury Police when needed.

The search warrant was executed at approximately 6 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, where YANCY was placed under arrest for the armed robbery.

As a result of the search, it was determined that the firearm brandished during the robbery was a replica.

Tewksbury Police would like to thank the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, Massachusetts State Police, Middlesex Sheriff’s Office, Lowell Police, and Billerica Police for their assistance in this investigation.

“This was a collaborative effort from all agencies involved who worked tirelessly since this robbery to get this person off the street,” said Chief Columbus.

These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
