
LUDLOW — Chief Ryan Pease reports that the Ludlow Fire Department responded to and extinguished a basement fire early Tuesday morning.
On Tuesday, Oct. 31 at approximately 7:40 a.m. Ludlow Central Dispatch received a 911 call from a resident reporting a fire in the basement of their home at 32 Hampden St.
Upon arrival crews observed smoke coming from the side door of the single-family home.
The first arriving crews were able to contain the fire to the basement of the home. The fire was brought under control at about 8 a.m.
There were no reported injuries. Five residents were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
Firefighters were able to locate and remove four cats from the home, one of which was found dead.
Westover and Wilbraham Fire Departments provided mutual aid at the scene. Station coverage was provided by Chicopee Fire Department.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Ludlow Fire Department and the State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
