Newport Police Arrest and Charge Man with Burglary

NEWPORT — Chief Travis Bingham reports that the Newport Police Department arrested a man Monday after he unlawfully entered a store on Saturday morning.

MARK MARSDEN, AGE 59, OF NEWPORT, was arrested and charged with:

  • Burglary (Felony)

On Sunday, May 21, at about 9:20 a.m., Newport Police received a report of a break-in at a business on East Main Street.

Upon arrival, officers learned that a window had been broken, the cash box had been moved and broken into, and about $900 worth of merchandise was missing. 

A preliminary investigation revealed that a man had broken into the store at about 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, and took more than $1,800 in merchandise and cash. 

Upon further investigation, the suspect was identified as MARSDEN, who is known to Newport Police. MARSDEN was arrested at his home on Judd Drive on Monday.

MARSDEN was held on $5,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in Orleans Criminal Court on Tuesday afternoon.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
