WORCESTER — The Fire Chiefs Association of Massachusetts (FCAM) will be joined by former White House Chief of Staff Gen. John Kelly as FCAM presents $5,000 to Fisher House Boston, which supports the families of soldiers who are receiving medical treatment in Boston hospitals.

WORCESTER — The Fire Chiefs Association of Massachusetts (FCAM) will be joined by former White House Chief of Staff Gen. John Kelly as FCAM presents $5,000 to Fisher House Boston, which supports the families of soldiers who are receiving medical treatment in Boston hospitals.

Gen. Kelly will also be reuniting with Brandon Laird for the first time since they met at Fisher House Boston where Laird was staying while he was having surgical reconstruction on his face.

WHAT:

FCAM’s leadership will present a $5,000 check to Fisher House Boston, in honor of Gen. Kelly. Fisher House Boston eases the burden on military members — active, veteran and retired — and their families during illness or injury by providing a home away from home in the Boston area, where families can stay comfortably at no cost to them while a loved one receives treatment at any Boston-area medical center.

General Kelly, a retired U.S. Marine Corps general who served as Chief of Staff at the White House under President Donald Trump and as U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, will be a keynote speaker at FCAM’s Annual Professional Development Conference, being held from Feb. 28 to March 2 at the DCU Center.

General Kelly and FCAM will be joined by Laird, a veteran who stayed at Fisher House Boston for months while he was having surgical reconstruction on his face. General Kelly, a Boston native, met Brandon while he was staying with Fisher House Boston, and this meeting will be the first time they have reunited since.

Fisher House Boston (FHB) eases the burden on military members (active, veteran, and retired) and their families during illness or injury by providing a home away from home; where families can stay comfortably at no cost to them while a loved one is receiving treatment inpatient, or 4+ days a week, at any Boston-area medical center. FHB partners with numerous hotels in Boston located within walking distance to each hospital. Families are placed in these hotels for as long as they need, so long as their loved one is inpatient or having treatment numerous times a week. FHB also has three apartments for families that are expected to be in Boston long term, greater than one month. FHB is in contact with each patient’s case management team frequently to maintain continuous verification of eligibility, needs, and to best facilitate discharge home once ready.
