EASTON – Chief Justin Alexander reports that Easton Fire Department crews and their mutual aid partners extinguished a two-alarm fire on Depot Street.
On Saturday, Feb. 4, at about 4:21 a.m., a homeowner at 339 Depot St. reported a fire in the attic of their home. First-responding Easton firefighters discovered heavy fire coming through the roof of a multi-story, single-family home. Firefighters Initiated an interior attack.
Crews also battled the extreme cold, and ensured a steady flow of water to bring the fire under control quickly.
“The temperatures were well below zero with wind chill at least at minus-35. Water freezes quickly, and the crews did an amazing job keeping water flowing to the fire,” Chief Alexander said. “Without their training and hard work this fire could have had a far worse outcome.”
Easton firefighters received considerable mutual aid on site, from the Brockton, Norton, Raynham, and Stoughton Fire Departments, Southeastern Massachusetts Regional Emergency Communications Center, Easton Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), the Mansfield Emergency Management Agency, and the state Department of Fire Services Special Operations rehabilitation unit.
Easton Police and the Easton Department of Public Works also provided critical support. The Avon Fire Department provided station coverage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Easton Fire Department.
Chief Alexander and the Easton Fire Department wish to thank their mutual aid partners for their dedication and professionalism in extremely challenging conditions.
