ARLINGTON — Chief Julie Flaherty is pleased to announce that the Arlington Police Department raised $5,825 during its 2022 No Shave November and December initiative to benefit cancer research.

For the campaign, members of the Arlington Police Department abstained from shaving their facial hair during the months of November and December, and donated or raised $100 each per month. Community members were also able to donate to the campaign.

All proceeds were donated to Massachusetts General Hospital for cancer research. The donation was presented to MGH personnel during a visit to the department on Tuesday, Jan. 31.

This is the fourth year the department has participated in the No Shave initiative, raising a total of $35,320 for two causes: MGH cancer research and Arlington grief support foundation The Children’s Room.

Over the past few years, Arlington Police have seen outstanding support for the fundraiser, raising $15,510 for MGH cancer research in 2019, $6,000 for the Children’s Room in 2020 and $7,985 for MGH cancer research in 2021. Each year, the initiative was extended through December with the permission of Chief Flaherty.

“We are proud to contribute to a meaningful, local cause through this campaign each year,” said Chief Flaherty. “We have often been able to exceed our fundraising goal due to the generosity of our community members, and we once again thank them for their support in helping us give back in 2022.”
