GEORGETOWN — John Guilfoil Public Relations LLC (JGPR) is proud to announce the company has been honored with two 2020 PRNews PR People Awards, and one of its employees was honored as one of PRNews’s National 31 Rising PR Stars Age 30 & Under.

Company founder John Guilfoil and Account Manager for Northern New England Jordan Mayblum were honored with two of the PR News’ PR People Awards, recognizing the top performing national professionals in the field of Public Relations. Account Executive Leah Comins was honored as one of the nation’s Rising PR Stars Age 30 and Under.

“I am so proud to work alongside each member of the JGPR family, as we close out our seventh year of operations. Each team member is committed to excellence and quality in their work, and it is that dedication that has made JGPR a national agency,” said Guilfoil said. “Jordan and Leah are extremely well-deserving of these honors and have excelled through this most challenging year, maintaining a high level of work and growing the business despite the many challenges and uncertainties of 2020.”

The PRNews PR People Awards and the Rising PR Stars 30 & Under Awards recognize exceptional communicators from a national field of professionals from corporate communications to boutique firms. The awards drew from hundreds of entries from across the country to select the final 70 honorees. JGPR tied with three other communications firms for the most awards given to a single company.

JGPR’s PRNEWS PR People Awards Winners, include:

John Guilfoil, JGPR Principal, has demonstrated unflappable leadership and reliability in communication for the company’s clients through the COVID-19 crisis. He innovated several ways to improve police, fire, and municipal communication about COVID-19, including the creation and launch of more than a dozen COVID-19 news portals for cities and town across Massachusetts. These portals have proven important community resources for coronavirus news and updates and have had more than a half million views combined since the COVID-19 crisis began.

During 2020 John has nearly doubled the company’s number of employees, and added a video division in response to client demand that has produced more than 150 videos in eight months. He also oversaw a surge in temporary hiring that saw JGPR bring back former interns, colleagues in the media industry and freelancers during the first COVID-19 peak this past spring. At peak, nearly 30 people were working for JGPR.

John founded JGPR at the end of 2013 after recognizing that local police and fire departments are underrepresented in the media. Since then the company has expanded its client base to include municipalities and school districts. This is John’s fourth PR News PR People Award. He has twice been honored as the national Public Affairs Professional of the Year and is a previous PR News national Crisis Manager of the Year.

Jordan Mayblum, JGPR’s Account Manager for Northern New England, took on new responsibility in 2020 when he became the manager and senior member of JGPR’s Northern New England team. Jordan led JGPR’s initial response to coronavirus assisting in aiding 180 clients with COVID-19 communications. During this time, he also landed JGPR’s largest client, the Town of Brookline, Massachusetts. Jordan joined JGPR in 2017.

JGPR’s PRNEWS Rising PR Stars 30 & Under Winner:

Leah Comins, a JGPR Account Executive for the company’s Southern New England Division, has been a stand out employee in 2020, proving invaluable in many areas. At the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, Leah was appointed as JGPR’s continuity officer and wrote the company’s first Continuity of Operations Plan in response to the pandemic. The document provides a framework of policies and procedures that allows the company to operate with minimal disruption to normal operations when an office is unusable or staff are deployed for long-duration incidents.

Leah has also grown the company’s internship program by handling the recruitment of interns through online recruitment databases and career fairs, reviewing applications and writing tests and conducting interviews.

Leah joined JGPR in July 2019 after graduating from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in May with a bachelor’s degree in journalism/strategic communication and political science.

“JGPR has been busier than ever in 2020 and it’s because of exceptional employees like Leah and Jordan that the company is thriving,” said JGPR Vice President Benjamin Paulin. “Additionally, John has demonstrated outstanding leadership through the pandemic both from a communications perspective and on an interpersonal level by showing generosity towards employees this year by offering extra days off and time away from the office to recuperate.”

These awards are the latest honor the growing company has earned in recent years. In October, JGPR received an Honorable Mention in the 2020 PRNews Platinum PR Awards category of Public Relations Team of the Year. In June, JGPR’s Southern New England Division swept the Local/Regional Television News Placement category at the 52nd Annual Bell Ringer Awards—the fifth consecutive year that JGPR had been honored by the PR Club and the second time in the company’s history that it has received a Gold Bell Ringer. In 2016, JGPR received a Gold Bell Ringer and was a finalist for the PR Campaign of the Year/Platinum Super Bell for its work on the Gloucester ANGEL Initiative.
