Fairhaven Police Announce Fort Phoenix, Sconticut Neck, West Island Beach Closures Following Shark Sighting

FAIRHAVEN — The Fairhaven Police Department announces that the Fort Phoenix, Sconticut Neck and West Island beaches are closed to the public following a shark sighting off Hacker Street Beach.

Residents Advised to Avoid the Water Until Further Notice

FAIRHAVEN — The Fairhaven Police Department announces that the Fort Phoenix, Sconticut Neck and West Island beaches are closed to the public following a shark sighting off Hacker Street Beach. 

The shark was spotted off Hacker Street Beach just after 1 p.m. All beaches will be closed until further notice.

The Fairhaven Harbor Master and New Bedford Police Marine Unit are currently patrolling the area.

Additionally, all beachfront and waterfront residents are advised to remain out of the water until further notice.
