Hanson Police Respond to Plane Crash at Cranland Airport

HANSON — Chief Michael Miksch reports that a pilot suffered minor injuries when his plane flipped onto its roof after attempting to land at the Cranland Airport in Hanson Monday afternoon.

At approximately 1 p.m., the Hanson Police and Fire Departments responded to the small public airport for a report of a plane that went off the runway. Upon arrival, first responders found a Cessna 182 Skylane plane that was on its roof.

The pilot, a 20-year-old man, was taken by a Hanson Fire ambulance to South Shore Hospital with minor injuries. He was alone in the plane.

The initial investigation indicates that the pilot overshot the runway while landing. The plane went off the end of the runway and hit a dirt road and flipped onto its roof.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by National Transportation Safety Board.

The incident is the second crash near the airport in three days. On Friday, a 34-year-old man died from his injuries after crashing near a pond on the airport property.
