Chelmsford Police Respond to Serious Motor Vehicle Crash

CHELMSFORD — Chief James M. Spinney reports that the Chelmsford Police Department responded today to a head-on motor vehicle crash that resulted in serious injuries.

At 3 p.m. Tuesday, Chelmsford Police received multiple 911 calls from citizens reporting a serious crash in the vicinity of 88 Westford Road. Upon arrival, police officers observed a two-car head-on crash between a Subaru vehicle and a pickup truck.

The driver of the Subaru was unresponsive, and officers removed him from the vehicle and began to perform CPR. The driver, a 39-year-old Lowell man, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 30-year-old Chelmsford man, was transported to a local hospital for lower body injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by Chelmsford Police and the Middlesex District Attorney’s office.

The roadway was closed in both directions during the initial response, and one lane will remain closed into the evening as the crash is investigated.
