Chelmsford Police Respond After Multiple Fox Attacks

CHELMSFORD — Chief James M. Spinney reports that the Chelmsford Police Department responded today after a fox allegedly attacked two people.

Officers responded at 10 a.m. to a report that a nurse from a doctor’s office on Meeting House Road has been attacked and bitten by a fox outside the door to her office.

At the time, officers searched but were unable to locate the fox.

Then at 4 p.m., Chelmsford Police responded to Crosby Lane for a report that a delivery person had been attacked as well. Upon arrival, officers encountered the fox. A determination was made that the fox represented an immediate threat to public safety and had already attacked two people. An officer discharged his service weapon, striking and killing the animal.

The fox will be taken to a state lab where it will be tested for rabies. Both bite victims have sought medical treatment.
