Chelmsford Police Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash

CHELMSFORD — Chief James M. Spinney reports that the Chelmsford Police Department is investigating a single-car motor vehicle crash that killed a man late last night.

On Tuesday, May 8, at approximately 11 p.m., Chelmsford Police were dispatched to 109 Main St. for a report of a motor vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, police observed a silver Honda Civic with significant front-end damage resting near a tree in the driveway of 109 Main St. As officers approached the vehicle, they discovered that a male operator, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was trapped in the driver’s seat. He was unresponsive to verbal questions by police officers.

The Chelmsford Fire Department arrived on scene and extracted the driver, a 23-year-old Windham, N.H. man, from the vehicle. First responders began life-saving efforts, but the operator was unresponsive and declared deceased on-scene.

This case has been referred to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine cause and manner of death.

This incident remains under active investigation by the Chelmsford Police Department and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.
