Pepperell Police Department Receives Child Passenger Safety Equipment Grant
PEPPERELL – Chief David Scott is pleased to announce that the Pepperell Police Department received a 2016 Child Passenger Safety Equipment Grant this month to expand resources and improve safety in the community.
Funding from the grant will be used to purchase a number of car and booster seats, which will then be freely distributed to local parents and caregivers in need.
Traffic crashes are the leading cause of death among children between the ages of 3 to 14. Properly installing child safety seats has been proven to reduce the risk of death and injuries in crashes. AAA estimates that 75 percent of child passenger safety equipment is installed incorrectly. The Pepperell Police Department is one of over 150 free child safety seat inspection sites in Massachusetts, with certified technicians available to assist residents.
“We are thankful to be awarded this grant that allows our department to better ensure that all children will be protected in the event of a motor vehicle accident or crash,” Chief Scott said. “Anyone who is in need of assistance installing a child safety seat should not hesitate to contact the police department.”
If you would like to schedule an appointment for inspection, or to install a new seat, please contact the Officer Rick Smith at the Pepperell Police Department at 978-433-2424. For full listing of upcoming check-up events and inspection sites statewide, please visit mass.gov/childsafetyseats.
Pepperell is one of the 61 municipal police and fire departments, regional nonprofit agencies, and hospitals that received a portion of the $165,000 grant allocation from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Highway Safety Division in 2016.
