Bruins to Honor Stoneham Police Officer During First Responder Night

STONEHAM — Chief James McIntyre is pleased to announce that the Boston Bruins will honor Stoneham Police Officer Sheryl Rotondi during First Responder Night for her involvement saving a life and bringing a life into the world.

To show their appreciation for first responders, the Boston sports team will recognize a group of men and women tonight at 7 p.m., during the Bruins versus Columbus Blue Jackets game at TD Garden.

Honorees and their families will be acknowledged throughout the game, with a photo montage on the high definition video scoreboard, Zamboni rides, the opportunity to high-five Bruins players before they take the ice, and more.

On Oct. 15, Officer Rotondi was in the dispatch area of the Stoneham police station during shift change when a man rushed in looking for help. The man reported that someone had collapsed in the basement of the Congregational Church.

Officer Rotondi immediately responded to the scene and found a 47-year-old man on the floor, unresponsive and not breathing. She initiated CPR until paramedics from Action Ambulance arrived.

The male was transported to a local hospital where doctors credited Officer Rotondi with helping to save his life.

Less than a week later, on Oct. 20, a motorist flagged down another Stoneham Police Officer and reported that his wife was in labor and would not make it to the hospital. Officer Rotondi responded to the scene along with the Stoneham Fire Department and Action Ambulance, and assisted with delivery as the baby was born in an ambulance on the way to the hospital.

“Officer Rotondi is extremely deserving of this recognition tonight,” Chief McIntyre said. “She has continued to go above and beyond to protect our community, no matter the circumstances.”
