Woburn Police Actively Searching for Man Who Allegedly Assaulted Police Officer and Struck Pedestrian With Vehicle

WOBURN — Acting Chief of Police Robert Rufo reports that the Woburn Police Department is actively seeking a suspect who allegedly assaulted a police officer and seriously injured a pedestrian after fleeing the scene of a larceny on Wednesday morning.
Woburn Police responded at 9 a.m. to a business located in North Woburn, near the intersection of New Boston and Merrimac streets for a reported theft.
A man, who police have identified as TYSON DELGADO, AGE 29, OF WINTHROP, was on scene and being interviewed by police when he assaulted an officer and fled in a white Chevrolet sedan. The officer was not seriously injured.
DELGADO was observed driving on Main Street, and in an attempt to elude police. He drove at a high rate of speed down a narrow side street and struck a 65-year-old man who was walking in the crosswalk.
The pedestrian landed on the hood of the car, and DELGADO continued to drive for several hundred yards before the victim fell off the vehicle.
The victim was taken to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington with serious injuries.
DELGADO then proceeded to drive onto Green Street, where he abandoned the car and fled on foot.
Woburn, Winchester, and the Massachusetts State Police K-9 unit, conducted a search of the area, but were unable to located the suspect.
DELGADO is wanted for Larceny, Assault and Battery, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident after Causing Serious Personal Injury. Additional charges are likely.
“This suspect has no regard for the safety of others as evidenced by this morning’s events,” Acting Chief Rufo said. “We urge anyone with information about this suspect’s location to immediately contact Woburn Police. With the public’s help we hope to get this dangerous individual off the streets before anyone else is harmed.”
Anyone with any information regarding DELGADO’s whereabouts is asked to call the Woburn Police Department at 781-933-1212.
Chief Robert Ferullo is currently away on vacation.
