Newburyport Police Arrest Man and Woman for Possession, Distribution of Heroin

Newburyport Police Arrest Man and Woman for Possession, Distribution of Heroin

NEWBURYPORT — City Marshal Mark Murray reports that the Newburyport Police Department arrested a man and woman this week for the possession and sale of heroin.

AMI B. COLETTI, AGE 41, OF NEWBURYPORT is charged with:

  • Possession to Distribute a Class A Drug (Heroin)
  • Distributing a Class A Drug (Heroin)
  • Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Law
  • Drug Violation Near a School/Park
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Revoked Registration

JOHN F. OGIBA, AGE 40, OF NEWBURYPORT is charged with:

  • Distributing a Class A Drug (Heroin)
  • Possession of a Class A Drug (Heroin)
  • Being Present Where Heroin is Kept
  • Drug Violation Near a School/Park
  • Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Law

The arrests are the result a month-long investigation involving surveillance of multiple hand-to-hand transactions with a confidential informant and uncover police officer.

On Jan. 21, police arrested COLETTI after she was observed making a sale to an undercover police officer for the third time. She was held on $5,000 bail at the Newburyport Police Department pending her arraignment at Newburyport District Court today. She is currently being held on $15,000 bail at MCI-Framingham pending her pretrial hearing.

OGIBA was arrested today and later arraigned at the Newburyport District Court. He is currently being held on $25,000 bail at Middleton House of Corrections.

“These arrests are the result of many hours of surveillance and assistance from our law enforcement partners,” Marshal Murray said. “We will continue to direct our resources to remove those who work on the supply side of this drug epidemic.”
