Methuen Police Investigating Email Threat Against High School

MEDIA STAGING AREA IS THE METHUEN POLICE DEPARTMENT.

METHUEN — Police Chief Joseph Solomon reports that the Methuen Police Department is investigating a threat made against Methuen High School this morning.

At 9:30 a.m., school officials received an email from an anonymous source making a non-specific threat against the high school. Police were notified, and the school was evacuated out of an abundance of caution.

The Methuen Police Department is conducting a full and thorough investigation and a search of the school. There are no direct indications of danger to the students, faculty, or staff, and nothing dangerous has been located at this time.

“We are aware that there have been a number of threats made against Massachusetts high schools in the past two weeks, but we want the community to know and understand that they have no bearing on our response and investigation today,” Chief Solomon said. “We take every report very seriously, and will conduct a thorough investigation.”

A State Police K-9 unit is also on scene.

The Methuen Public Schools will determine if the school day shall resume once the police department clears the building.
